Contribution of the SRC «Carat» in discovery of the «God particle»

The Royal Swedish Academy of Science has announced names of the Nobel Prize winners in physics for 2013 - Prof. Peter W. Higgs and Prof. François Englert. They have gotten this Prize for the theoretical discovery of a mechanism that contributes to our understanding of the origin of mass of subatomic particles (Higgs boson or «God particle») that gave to scientists a mechanism for understanding the matter mass origination.

July 4, 2012 the CERN (Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire) management has officially declared about revealing with detection probability 99.99995% a new particle with mass near 126 GeV, which is rather the Higgs boson on scientists’ supposition. This result obtained at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has been named the greatest achievement in particle physics for the last 30-40 years.

Ukrainian scientists are also concerned in this discovery because a key element of the LHC – special detector has been successfully developed and created thanks to their invention of unique single crystal scintillation material. The «Carat» has made its own contribution in fabrication of this detector – the Company has manufactured and delivered to Russian partner more than 8 ton of single crystals that has been used for fabrication of high sensitive detecting.

More than 10 thousand scientists from more than 100 countries took part in designing and making the LHC. In 1013 the CERN plans to start its upgrading through the instrumentality of more sensitive detectors and increasing total power. The modernization project has a name Super Large Hadron Collider (SLHC).
